April 20, 1811, copy of letter (in German) from Amalia Beer, mother of composer Giacomo Meyerbeer, to Professor Wolfsohn in Darmstadt. Mentions dealings with both her son and the composer [Carl Maria von] Weber. The original of this letter is at Davidson College, N.C. August 5, 1914, broadside (in German) with patriotic essay, "An England," by Professor Otto von Gierke, criticizing England as being traitorous. October 16, 1914, copy of the Norddeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung, with article on the origins of the war and war news.

By 1831, Spontini's reputation has lost ground to the works of younger men, including Meyerbeer, whose Robert le Diable was first performed eight month after the date of this letter; this is perhaps the opera mentioned here, though Meyerbeer may be referring to the abortive Le Portefaix, the contract for which he had just signed.
